Makerspaces within Libraries
Through a recent study into learning spaces for diverse communities, I put together a prospective solution of a maker space in my local library. Spaces such as this invite communication and collaboration where there might not have been the driver before.
The space in particular was strongly inspired by the principles of Salutogenic Design. Variety, nature, authenticity and legacy within the built environment (Farrow, 2014). It incorporated many open-ended and multipurpose materials and surfaces to facilitate activities, but also promote exploration.
I had to incorporate my own personal influence in this work, in which the main focuses of the space are within Upcycling and reducing waste and cost of the environment and it's activities.
I encourage you to have a full read of my write up of both my research, and my delivery of this project, as it was very rewarding piece of work that reflects the sort of projects I would like to bring into reality some day.
