Panopticon

Upon entering the proposed space, visitors are confronted with a live feed of their presence, as they move through the space the feed follows them through several cameras and monitors mounted on

the left and right hand wall. This amplifies the feeling that we are being observed typically felt in the busy public environment of the CBD that the space is installed.

With this surveillance, we are forced to contemplate our bodies in the space. It brings to mind what other people see of ourselves and the awkwardness this brings. The intention is for visitors to leave the space with an uneasy feeling, as if the installations effect extends beyond its environment. They become hyper aware of their presentation, thus manifesting the panopticon effect. In effect, I wanted raise awareness of the presence of surveillance within their day to day life.
